I have moved to Perth!!! (three weeks ago)
I have moved out!!!
Despite handing in resumes two weeks before moving here, and having a trial shift at San Churro, I still have not worked since I’ve been here. The first couple days in Perth mostly went as planned, I’ve also caught up with Emelie at her 19th birthday party and then again when she came down to visit and we had a day out in Fremantle.
My godfather has also taken some time off work for personal reasons, so I didn’t end up working at his restaurant for Christmas. He went away to see family though, so I’ve had the apartment to myself for a couple weeks.
So you know what that means….. dating app mistakes!!!!
I had a guy over who catfished me with a beard, which I’m not really into and did not expect. And then he literally stayed for 20 minutes total. Like, including the time it took to open the car gate, get up the stairs, unlock the front door, do the deed, and then for him to leave. It was also so incredibly disappointing; you’d think a 22 year old guy with all the confidence would know what he’s doing, but apparently not.
And then in a drastic turn of events, I went on an actual date?! We’d been talking on the app and he just seemed really like my type and could hold a nice decent conversation, so I bit the bullet and asked if he wanted to grab coffee sometime. He said yes and we ended up planning it for the next day?!
Shocking, I know. I had an appointment in the morning to donate plasma before Christmas (because did you know that life threatening car accidents increase around holidays). At the donor center, the lady had to ask me all the procedure questions and I had to mention I was very nauseous, not because of the donation but because I was going on the first date I’ve had in about a year.
Coffee shop ended up shut by that time in the afternoon, so guess where we ended up…
Ice cream shop, can you believe it? Now two of my first dates have involved ice cream, how funny! Or maybe that’s sad, I don’t know.
We got there, he bought my scoop for me (!!!!) chatted for a bit and then went for a drive around. During this drive I got a phone call for another job place I’d applied for, and had to continue this chat for like 30 minutes while this poor guy, who I’m going to call Kaleb, just drove around aimlessly wasting fuel.
So, as anyone who can’t afford gas money would do, I put in my address so at least Kaleb had somewhere to drive to. Eventually, I got off the phone with confirmation for another chat to clarify a trial shift at the fish and chips shop across the road, and soon we reached my place.
He stayed and we had some fun and it was about 7:30pm he left, meaning we spent nearly 5 hours together and even though he lives about 40 minutes away he was still willing to stay late at mine.
The next day was when I hung out with Emelie in fremantle, which was so great because I’ve been having some issues with Sami and without my godfather here I kinda need someone to be friends with and do stuff with.
However…. I did wake up with an awful sore throat that day and I got really really worried about how silly it might have been to have two different guys over within a week.
When the sore throat was still there the next day, I booked a doctors appointment just to check. I needed to get in with a gp anyway for my scripts, and luckily the doctor was so nice and said for people under 30 they provide free sti tests so I got all those done, even though the doc said my sore throat was nothing to worry about, and yes I’ve been used most contraceptive methods so don’t come at me with that. Also she hasn’t contacted me with urgent recall so I’m assuming everything’s negative.
On the 23rd, after it had been both Luke’s 18th (he got christmas break off so he’s home btw) and Connor’s 15th, the boys came up to Perth to do something shopping and spending. We all went and did the Rio Tinto lights tour around Elizabeth Quay and the malls in the city which was just a really fun night.
The next day, because I wasn’t working for Christmas, the boys drove me home so I could spend a couple days there not having to pay for food.
Christmas (even though my sore throat had developed into a cold and fever) was so nice, it was just the five of us and it was quiet and just one of the best christmases we’ve had the past couple years.
I absolutely indulged, having three course meals three times a day (mum bought so much food for Christmas, thank goodness) and slept a lot. I am so so glad I went home for Christmas. I had a couple days there to recover from feeling so shit, being able to eat and sleep as much as I need and want.
My brothers drove me back up yesterday, and we had another little adventure day; went to an escape room in Fremantle this morning. (never again, too much money personally, I’ll save that for my next first date when I can hopefully not pay so much).
Kaleb came over again this afternoon, he works a lot and they’re long hours but I appreciate that he still made the trip to see me, even though he wasn’t around as long as last time because his dad was over for dinner. That was a shame because I thought we could go for dinner, but once he left, I just took myself to dinner at the pub instead.
In the meantime, for the past couple weeks, I’ve done some exploring of the nearby shopping centers, I had my first appointment with my new psychologist, Keely, who is so awesome. She’s got a slight irish accent and is a mum to a 19 year old girl. I think she will be really good for me, especially once I start university.
Now I just need to find an OT and change all my addresses for like my license and stuff, because – most pressing issue – I can’t get a local library card until I have a local address.
I have been using my Kindle heaps though, and have read Frieda McFadden’s The Housemaid. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT WAS SO GOOD???? I binge read the whole trilogy and am now onto another one of her novels, The Tenant. Looking forward to seeing if The Housemaid movie is structured in a similar way to the book or not.
ALSO I’m going to Snack festival on New Years Eve in Perth, which will be my first festival! Missy from Bunbury is going with her boyfriend, and Luke is going with some of his friends from gero, so I’ll see them both, but technically I’m going by myself.
Bit scary, daunting, but also exciting. I’m looking forward to the happy hour price drinks, the tattoo booth and the exotic dancing concerts especially. The outfit situation has been a slight nightmare, but I think I’ve got it under wraps now.
And I think that’s it for now?
To clarify, Kaleb isn’t sure if he wants a relationship, his last and only relationship was 4 years long so thats a bit understandable I guess. He’s not my usual type now I’ve met him but still nice enough and like I said, can have an intelligible conversation.
Ok. Now its it.
Probably see you in the new year! Adios for now xx
